About Us
Modeling the Northeast in O scale since 1939
The Stamford Model Railroad Club was founded in 1939 by three individuals, one of whom was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Stamford, Connecticut. What began as a modest stretch of track and a Lionel transformer has grown over more than eight decades into one of the most impressive club layouts in the Northeast.

The Atlantic Trunk Lines

Our layout, known as The Atlantic Trunk Lines, spans approximately 150 by 50 feet and operates entirely in 2-rail O scale — a 1:48 realistic scale that faithfully represents real-life prototype locomotives, rolling stock, and infrastructure. Unlike 3-rail O scale, our railroad runs on Direct Current (DC) with power supplied from rail to rail, with no third rail. Our trolley line is powered from true-to-scale overhead catenary wire. The railroad features six independent main line cab positions, allowing up to six trains to operate simultaneously. The layout includes 6,000+ feet of track, 250 switches, 11 large yards, 13 passenger stations, a robust traction line, and approximately 250 commercial and residential structures — all modeling the character and geography of the Northeast.

As Seen In

The club and its layout have been featured in publications such as Model Railroader magazine (July 1992), O Scale Trains magazine (March/April 2021), and News 12 Connecticut, reflecting decades of recognition within the model railroading community.
